Topic 109 · Networking Fundamentals
109.4 Configure client side DNS
Step 1 of 9 · weight 2
Client side only
Weight 2. This objective configures how a host asks for names. BIND and named stay out of scope. Most of the files were already seen in earlier lessons; this map ties them together.
- Troubleshooting the path stayed in 109.3. Writing the host and the resolver files started in 109.2. Here the question is name to address on the client
- Exam files and tools: /etc/hosts, /etc/resolv.conf, /etc/nsswitch.conf, host, dig, getent. systemd-resolved is awareness only
- TXT, CNAME, and SOA sit outside LPIC-1. Authoritative zone work is server side
Exam note
If the question says client side, do not start a DNS server. Start with how this host resolves a name.
